Truly Devious - A Review

Let’s play a little game of murder…

All Stevie Bell wants is to be stood over a dead body.

But what happens when you actually do get what you want?

X

I loved Truly Devious and cannot wait to continue the series. Set at the Ellingham Academy, a boarding school for prodigies in any and all fields founded by one Albert Ellingham, the school might actually be most famous for its single greatest mystery.

Splitting our time between the 1930s and Present-day in the company of protagonist Stevie Bell, we follow her as she arrives for her first year at Ellingham, with one goal in mind:

Solve the murder of Albert Ellingham’s wife, a seemingly random student and the case of Ellingham’s missing daughter, who in almost eighty years, has never been found.

Dead or alive.

It may seem a little god-complex -ish for a sixteen-year-old girl to believe she can prevail where decades of police and dedicated investigators have failed.

But let the games commence.

Ellingham is old. A place that old and that isolated is bound to have its fair share of secrets.

And some are very resistant to being discovered.

I cannot imagine the time, dedication and “screaming-into-a-pillow” effort it took to bring Truly Devious to life. And this is just the first book in the series! I look forward to being further fooled and mislead and surprised by Miss Maureen Johnson.

And those who know me will know how much it takes for me to admit that.

I am stubbornly proud to a fault, of my ability to predict the outcome of pretty much every murder mystery/crime show/Sherlock episode I’ve ever seen.

Not all. Just most.

But I am almost happy to report that I did not, and still do not know where the tale of Truly Devious is headed. And this makes our eyes and ears on the ground, one Stevie Bell, even more of an incredible character.

Seriously, I relate to this girl on a CHEMICAL level and it’s actually a little scary.

I’m not going to go into this much more. I already feel like I’ve shared too much and I want you to enjoy it the way I did.

I look forward to continuing the story and bringing y’all along for the ride with my.

Until next time, and all the best,

Truly,

Devious xx
